Barcelona has been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. This summer, the Catalan club has made it a priority to sign a top-tier striker.
According to Marca, the club has considered making a move for Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.
However, the Spanish giants are encountering difficulties in their pursuit of the Bundesliga duo. As a result, they've identified Romelu Lukaku as a 'Plan C,' and are said to have held talks with the Chelsea striker's agent about a move to Camp Nou.
Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have all expressed interest in Erling Haaland. Xavi Hernandez's side lacks the financial resources to compete for the Norwegian's signature with the aforementioned clubs.
In recent months, Robert Lewandowski has been widely linked with a move to Camp Nou. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, is said to be hesitant to part ways with the Polish striker.
His deal with the Bavarians will run out in 2023. The club is apparently interested in extending his contract, as well as the prospect of keeping him for a year and then releasing him on a free transfer the following year.
As a result, Barcelona's attention has shifted to Lukaku. The Belgian striker joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in a £97.5 million deal last summer. With the Blues, he had a disastrous 2021-22 season.
In 40 appearances across all competitions, the attacker has only scored 12 goals and has fallen out of favour with Thomas Tuchel.
Lukaku is rumoured to be dissatisfied at Chelsea and could leave the club this summer. Mateu Alemany, Barcelona's sporting director, and Jordi Cruyff, the club's sporting consultant, have met with Federico Pastorello, the player's agent, to explore a possible summer transfer. The financial predicament of the Spanish club, on the other hand, might stymie any attempts to recruit Lukaku. If Chelsea sells him, they will try to reclaim the majority of the £97.5 million fee.
Barcelona is in debt to the tune of €1 billion. However, the club's president, Joan Laporta, is in talks with CVC Investments to see whether they can get the finances they need to make new acquisitions.
Some players who have been judged surplus to requirements will also be released by the club. Philippe Coutinho, Miralem Pjanic, and Francisco Trincao are examples of such players.
Barcelona may face heavy competition from Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku's signature.
Romelu Lukaku wants to return to Inter Milan, according to Calciomercato. During his two seasons with the club, the Belgian scored 64 goals in 95 games across all competitions, and last season, he led the Nerazurri to their first Scudetto in 11 years.
According to ESPN, Inter Milan is open to the possibility of re-signing the 28-year-old attacker. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club is preparing for the possible departure of talismanic attacker Lautaro Martinez, who has been extensively linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. According to reports, Diego Simeone's team see him as a possible replacement for veteran striker Luis Suarez, who is nearing the end of his career. As a result, Barcelona may face heavy competition for Lukaku.
